Jonathan Walters, Professor of Religion and Asian Studies and Chair of the Humanities and Arts, Whitman College, USA will present an illustrated talk on Hagenbeck's Circus Ceylon: Alternative Orientalisms in the 19th Century West on Wednesday, July 9th at 5.30 p.m. at ICES, 2, Kynsey Terrace, Colombo 8. Prof. Walters has been studying and conducting fieldwork in Sri Lanka since 1982. He is the author of The History of Kelaniya (1996), and Finding Buddhists in Global History (1998) in addition to more than 30 journal articles and book chapters about the history and cultures of Sri Lanka.
