Unions challenge Dallas to keep his word

The All Ceylon Transport Workers Union has challenged Transport Minister Dallas Alahapperuma to keep his word that he would resign in the event that if even one bus was stopped from operating in July 10, the day of the intended general strike.

The Union told the Minister if possible to pay the transport workers their cost of living arrears which amount to Rs 17,875 before July 10.

The Union also challenged the Minister to pay the workers’ monthly salary once and for all without paying it in instalments.

"Will you refrain from drawing his monthly salary until the employees salaries are paid," the union asked the Minister.
