For the eighth consecutive year, the Council of Business with Britain (CBB) will kick off its annual six-a-side softball cricket and netball tournament on Saturday, July 12, at the NCC Grounds, Colombo.
For the first time the event will include a badminton tournament as well.
An annual event, the CBB Sixes, is one of the most looked forward to events on the corporate calendar with the participation of leading companies in Sri Lanka. HSBC, the world’s local bank, is the principle sponsor, while Aviva Global Services Lanka, Delmege Forsyth & Co. Mackwoods Tea, Shell Sri Lanka, and Virtusa (Sri Lanka) have stepped forward as co-sponsors of the event. The electronic media sponsor will be Yes FM, and McLarens Holdings Ltd. will be the official grounds sponsor.
In addition to the sports events, it will be a day of entertainment for the entire family with a number of fun filled activities lined up. Funds collected from the CBB cricket sixes, netball and badminton tournament are directed at supporting the CBB-English Language Teacher Training Project (CBB-ELT), a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the CBB, which it has been funding for the last three years.
This project is aimed at improving the standards of English in National schools, an issue that is seen by many companies at the time of recruitment of employees. The project is supported by the British Council in association with the National Institute of Education, the Ministry of Education, and the University of Cambridge. This project serves towards building the capacity of English teachers, by reaching out to rural areas in Sri Lanka.
