Sri Lankans win 13 medals in Junior South Asian TT C’sihp

Six silver medals and seven bronze medals were won by the Sri Lankan table tennis team at the South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championships held in Karachi, Pakistan from July 9 to 11, 2008. The South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championships was organised by the Pakistan Table Tennis Federation under the guidance of the South Asian Table Tennis Federation.

Along with Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, and Pakistan competed in the championships.

In junior girls events, Sri Lanka beat Pakistan in quarter-finals, Nepal in semi-finals but lost to India (0-3) in the final.

Ishara Madurangi lost to Pooja (1/3),[Tharindra Weerakoon lost Saumi 0/3),(Ishara / Thrindra lost Pooja/Divya 2/3)

In junior boys events, Sri Lanka beat Nepal in quarter-finals, Pakistan in semi-finals but lost to India in the final.

Buddika Walagampala lost to Raj Model (0/3), Sukitha Wickramanayaka lost to Shubham (0/3), Buddika/Sahanaka beat Samyajith /Shubham, Buddika Walagampala lost to Shubham (0/3)

In Cadets girls team event, Sri Lanka beat Pakistan in quarter-final, Nepal in semi-finals but lost to India in finals.

Nuwani Navodya lost to Chavi Kawle (0/3) Chavindya de Silva lost to Anikitha (0/3), Nuwani/Erandhi lost to Chavi/Anikitha (0/3)

In Cadets boys team event, Sri Lanka beat Pakistan in quarter-final, Nepal in Semi-final and lost to India (0/3) in Final.

Hasintha Shashiranga lost to Saumayajith (2/3), Malith Dilusha lost to Sathyan (0/3, Shashiranga/Malith lost to Sathyan/Diligu (0/3)

In Junior boys under-18 doubles event, Buddika Walgampola and Shanaka Ganegoda were good enough to win the silver medal while junior girls under-18 doubles event’s silver medal was won by Ishara Madurangi and Tharindra Weerakoon.

Another 07 bronze medals were also won by the team in the championship in the singles events in under-18 boys and girls category

M. Muthalib, the Manager, Chathura Dushan, the coach, (Ms.) D. Shyamalee, the Lady Chaperone and Prahath Priyantha, the international umpire were to return to the island with the team yesterday.
