      Editorial:Political Councils as political ambalamas
Commissioner of Elections Dayananda Dissanayake yesterday assured opposition parties that the forthcoming Elections to the Sabaragamuwa and North Central Provinces would be democratic, free and fair election on schedule on August 23.
The Commissioner gave this assurance after hearing complaints of the UPFA’s misuse of State machinery, property, media, security and vehicles in the election campaign, by the secretaries and representatives of the main opposition political parties who met him at the Elections Secretariat at Rajagiriya yesterday morning.
The Government was represented by the Ministers Dallas Alahapperuma and Dilan Perera.

This 10-foot crocodile, found near a paddy field at Devale Road Pannipitiya, had bitten the a resident of the area, 47-year-old R.Gamini who was among those who tried to capture it yesterday (14). Wild Life Department personnel led by Upali Pathmasiri and tied up the crocodile after much effort. Over thousand people flocked to Devale Road to have a look at the uninvited visitor to their hometown.

SLIDA funds mismanaged - AG
The Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration mismanaged its funds and had not adopted correct accounting procedures for the past three years according to the Auditor General in his report on SLIDA for 2006.
