The Ministry of Education
in a statement issued yesterday refuted the claim of the Ceylon Teachers
Service Union that 90 per cent of teachers struck work on July 10 and said
that according to a survey conducted by the Ministry through provincial
directors of education 84 per cent of teachers were present on that day.
Now the Ministry has directed the provincial directors to forward the list
of teachers who were present, who were on leave, those who were on
maternity leave, official leave and the number of teachers who were absent
due to the strike
The Ministry further said that once this information is collected it
would be able to give the exact percentage of teachers who struck work on
July 10.
