We’ll be in charge of SAARC security: -Yapa

Security for the forthcoming 15th SAARC Summit in Colombo, will be provided by the Sri Lankan police and security forces and not Indians, the government said yesterday.

Media Minister Anura Priyadharashana Yapa told the weekly cabinet press briefing at the Information Department, that the presence of Indian security personnel to protect Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, would in no way undermine Sri Lanka’s police or security forces.

"It is the Sri Lankan police and security forces who would be entrusted with the task of providing security for those participating in the Summit."

All heads of state including Singh, are entitled to have their personal protection,he added.

Asked about reservations expressed in certain quarters about the Sri Lanka India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement(CEPA),Yapa said that the Cabinet was yet to approve it.
