

Over 700 refugees who lived in the Punthottam refugee settlement destroyed by fire on Wednesday have been accommodated at the Punthottam Government school. The school will be closed until alternative accommodation is found for the refugees.
The term end tests due to be held in the school too have been postponed indefinitely.
The Vavuniya District Secretariat office and several other NGOs are now engaged in providing cooked meals for the displaced people belonging to 115 families.
An emergency meeting presided by the Vavuniya District Secretary was due to be held on Friday evening to discuss the problems faced by the refugees, finding alternate accommodation and other facilities for the displaced families
Police are conducting investigations to ascertain the cause of the fire.
