Rugby League showdown at Longden Place

It's the big match of the season. with Kandy Sports Club taking on arch-rivals CR & FC in their own territory today. The two giants of Sri lankan Rugby will meet in the finale of the ongoing inter-club Rugby league tournament at Longden Place in the return leg. Despite conceding the league title to the more superior opponents from Kandy after losing to Havelocks, the boys in the red shirts will look to regain some lost pride. CR as always will have to rely on their dynamic forwards led by Prop Shamil Mohomed. There was concern in the CR camp on the fitness of Mohomed who is recovering from an injury and it will be interesting to see how the red shirts respond if  Mohomed is ruled out for today's match. CR will be strengthned by Number eight Dushanth Lewke who will have to make a vital contribution. Anuranga Dharmathilake and former captain Pavithra Fernando will have to man the defence and gain the crucial turnover if the boys from Longden place go for the kill. The CR line is virtually no match to the boys from the hill capital as CR have a very inexperienced team of players as opposed to their rivals. Reza Mubarak and Dev Anand will however have to play well and Wing three Mohomed Sherrif the most experienced in the line together with Lasintha Costa will have to do most of the running.

Kandy sports Club will be a confident of having beaten CR in the previous encounter.

But they are known to get the jitters when playing in Colombo without the support of the home crowd. It will be interesting to see  how they perform in alien territory. CR gave them a good fight last time as they met in Nittawela and the boys from Kandy despite having possession of the league title will go all out to beat their arch-rivals.

Kandy have with them a virtual Sri lanka line-up with the likes of Sajith Mallikaarachi and Sanjeewa  Jayasighe in the midst.

Saliya Kumara will have to use his boots to the maximum in order to give Kandy the edge.

Fazil Matrija will be the man to watch as he is capable of making some daring moves that most often than not have the opposition in awe.

It will indeed be a match that would test the guts of the Kandy line and the CR forwards and should be a match that no rugby lover would want to miss.
