

All eyes will be on giant killers Maligawatte Youth when the Holcim FA Cup Championship quarter finals gets underway at the Sugathadasa Stadium, today.
The quarter finals of the F.A Cup Championship will be played today and tomorrow with a two match schedule on both days at the Sugathadasa Stadium, commencing 4.00 pm.
Although six prominent teams in the football arena have reached the quarterfinal stage, the contest between Maligawatte Youth and Civil Security Force which will be played on Sunday is due to attract spectator interest as they make their bid to secure a semifinal berth for the first time in the FA Cup.
Debutants Civil Security Force beat Cooray SC 3-0 to secure their quarter final berth. Their opponents in tomorrow’s game, Maligawatte Youth, once a formidable force, stormed back to prominence with a stunning 3-2 victory over defending champions Negombo Youth. Having drawn the match nil all they scored 3-2 in the penalty shootout to edge out the fancied team. Their stunning victory not only found them a place in the quarter finals, but also provided a moral boost to meet the other fancied team in the decisive stage.
While the newcomers will clash in the third quarter final on Sunday, the first quarter final between Blue Star and Air Force will start at 4.00 pm today ensuring a close contest. Blue Star reached the quarters after beating Red Sun 3-1, while the Airmen booked their birth after a close tussle with the Old Bens. Air Force drew their match 1-1 and then extracted a sharp 4-3 victory in the penalty shootout.
The evenings second match (6.00pm) too will be an interesting affair. Saunders, who beat Don Bosco 3-0 in the pre quarter final will be the slight favourites over Police SC who reached there after beating New Young 2-0.
The last quarter final which will start at 6.00 pm on Sunday will see glamour boys, Ratnam SC taking on Army SC. Ratnam, who field several national players are the favourites here. Ratnam routed Middlesex SC 5-0 in the pre quarter final while Amry secured a 1-0 victory over Renown to book their quarter final berth.
