      Editorial:Hawks and doves embroiled in contradictions
The Supreme Court yesterday, ruling in favour of a fundamental rights violation appeal by Vasudeva Nanayakkara, nullified the sale of eight acres of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority land to John Keels (Pvt.)Ltd in August 2002.
In a judgment delivered yesterday the Court declared this land transaction illegal and void. A presidential direction in this regard was voided.
The Lanka Marine Service Limited was a subsidiary of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, at the time of the transaction.

Pay hike or health?
JVP parliamentarian and Trade Union leader K. D. Lalkantha was at the Colombo National Hospital yesterday (22) on a propaganda mission to muster the support of the hospital employees to join another strike to win the Rs.5000 wage hike demand. He said that the JVP affiliated National Trade Union Centre would bring out the staff of the other hospitals also out the next time.

Cop arrested for molesting women
A police constable deployed at a checkpoint at Iranawila who had crept into a neigbouring house and molested a woman occupant was arrested by the Puttalam Police yesterday (21). The constable was interdicted following the incident.
