Eighteen Tigers killed, 35 injured in Vavuniya, Welioya fronts
Eighteen Tiger cadres died and 35 were injured on the "Vavuniya and Welioya fronts, yesterday.

According to Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara, troops engaged the LTTE in a fierce battle in the areas of Parappakai, Malavi Uddimunnai, Navvi and Palamodai in the Vavuniya theatre. 9 Tiger cadres died.

In the Mannar front, four soldiers were injured due to booby traps and Anti Personnel Mines.

"The Tigers, unable to withstand the recent onslaught by the security forces, have heavily booby trapped the area ahead of Mallavi", the military said.

Security forces are consolidating and fortifying positions re-captured from the LTTE, he said.
