

SC orders IGP to control noisy announcements
The Supreme Court yesterday directed the IGP to control over-loud security announcements accompanied by noisy music in Kohuwala and Narahenpita. A complaint had been made to the Court that these security measures are announced along with unnecessarily noisy music.
The Court directed the police to order the street vendors, such as sweep ticket sellers to use box-type amplifier.
The Regulation made by the Environmental Foundation Limited should be connected to the police ordinance, the Court said. Any violation of the regulation should be referred to a Court of law.
In the application, the environmental Foundation Limited had complained of noise pollution in the city of Colombo and the suburbs. The first respondent is the Minister of Environment.
