Jobs for construction  workers in Singapore

The Construction and Engineering Services Ministry will obtain employment for 10,000 trained construction personnel in Singapore annually.

During Minister Rajitha Senaratne’s recent visit to Singapore the Singapore government requested him to send 50,000 construction personnel to work there.

Minister Senaratne said that the Ministry had implemented an effective training programme called ‘Construction Silpa Saviya’ for the benefit of personnel who are desirous of securing employments in the construction and engineering fields.

He said that his Ministry in collaboration with ICTAD would embark on training amateur personnel in the construction industry as the demand for skilled construction personnel had been growing by leaps and Construction personnel in rural areas were not in a position to update their technical know-how and the objective of the training programme was to provide a quality in modern buildings.

The Ministry had already held training programmes for construction personnel in Kalutara and Hambantota districts and would be holding training programmes across the country on district basis.

He emphasised that Sri Lanka was in dire need of trained carpenters, masons, plumbing technicians and architects to work in the growing construction industry. The Ministry had made arrangements to a recognised certificate to each trainee after successful completion of the training program with a tools kit required for the particular occupation.

Minister Senaratne outlined that in accordance with the the Mahinda Chintanaya policy within the next 10 years, the government would send construction personnel to work in foreign countries and that was why a Ministry for Construction and Engineering Services had been established.
