PBJ likely to step down after SAARC

Treasury Secretary Dr. P. B. Jayasundera who is expected to leave office at the end of SAARC summit has been among the officials included in the government delegation for meetings with dignitaries here for the event.

Jayasundera last week sent his resignation after paying Rs. 500,000 fine to the government for his role in the controversial LMSL transaction.

Sajin Vaas Gunawardene, the former head of crash-landed Mihin Air and now wears the hat of presidential coordinating officer on international affairs too is on the government’s SAARC delegation.

On Friday, he was seen seated just behind President Mahinda Rajapaksa when the President met SAARC leaders at the Presidential Secretariat.

Gunawardene, in his new capacity, late last week had accompanied Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama to a high level NAM gathering in Teheran. (SF)
