

DFCC Group began their knock-out competition in an impressive way, when they defeated Dialog Telecom in a close match by 59 points to 55 in an ‘A’ Division knockout match at the ongoing MSBA Knockout Tournament played at Mercantile Cricket Association courts on Friday.
DFCC were well ahead by 13 points 26 at the end of the first half and went on to defend their lead of 13 in the second half too. Gayan Mideniya led in front scoring 22 points for DFCC and he was amply helped by Rasika Prabath (11) and Asanka Suwaris (15) who shared 21 points between them. For Dialog, Vajira Kumarasinghe scored 16 points while G. Hererth chipped in with 12 points.
Eagle Insurance beat MAS Holdings in a ‘C’ Division match also played at MCA on Friday. Eagle Insurance scored 54 points against MAS Holdings’ 43 points. MAS Holdings were ahead by a single point at the end of the first half and went on to further the gap in the second half. For Eagle, Muaz Asim scored 26 points while Sumith Perera chipped in with 19 points. For MAS Holdings, Mahesh Fernando and Nalanga Fernando scored 13 points each.
Roshan Randima (21) and Chanaka Perera (19) shared 40 points between them to guide the defending champions Delmege Group to a 73-62 win in an ‘A’ Division knockout match against Nations Trust Bank (NTB) at Otters Aquatic Club Courts on Thursday. For NTB, S. Senanayake scored 14 points while Manjula Jayaratne scored 12 points.
Meanwhile in another ‘A’ Division match played on Friday, ‘Akbar Brothers’ beat ‘David Peiris Motor Company’ ‘B’ by 95 points to 63 in a one-sided game. Akbar dominated the proceedings from the word go. They were ahead 53-30 at the end of the first half and furthered the gap in the second half. For Akbar, S. Jayaratne top scored with 37 points while Jeewan Priyankara came up with 14 points. For DPMC, Jude Saranga scored 13 points.
