Sri Lanka has now placed a higher emphasis on "Food Safety Management" and in order to facilitate this focus, on 18th December 2006, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) launched the project "Strengthening International certification capacity in Sri Lanka with particular reference to Social Accountability Standard (SA 8000) and Food Safety (HACCP/ISO 22000) Standard." This project is funded by the Royal Norwegian Government under the UNIDO Integrated Industrial Support Programme Phase II with the Ministry of Industrial Development.

Ind-Expo Certification (Pvt) Ltd which was established with two reputed Chambers, the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) and National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE) under UNIDO project has being registered with CIEH, UK to promote and conduct the CIEH training programmes in Sri Lanka. As the initial step to this task UNIDO trained 15 trainers for CIEH Level 4 of which 08 professionals successfully passed the exam and obtained registration to deliver CIEH training. Thus Ind-expo is now positioned to embark on a series of accredited training programmes in Food Safety -Levels 1 & 2 and in due course, move on to the upper levels of the CIEH programs.

What does the CIEH do?

The CIEH works with employers and external training providers to deliver training to frontline staff. Food safety and health and safety training are an essential part of running a successful business and the CIEH offers a range of OFQUAL (Office of the Qualifications and Examination Regulator of UK) accredited qualifications that are respected and recognised throughout the world.

This type of training involves more than making sure staff wash their hands or wear steel toe caps. The training and resulting qualifications ensures that the wellbeing of employees and the reputations of employers are protected, and can even help boost the bottom line by improving staff retention.

The CIEH provides the opportunity to employers to enhance training for their employees thus increasing career prospects and allowing better business practices.

Training

Training is carried out by CIEH trainers or accredited professionals and in accordance with CIEH specified syllabus using new generation learning materials developed by leading educationists and industrial experts.

At the end of each program, each candidate will be subjected to an assessment examination devised by CIEH with the papers being evaluated and marked in the UK. The successful candidates will be awarded an appropriate certificate from CIEH, UK.

Target Group
