The Women and Children’s Bureau of the Galle Police has commenced investigations on allegations of sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl by her grandfather and six of his friends.
Initial investigations had revealed the girl had been sexually abused by her grandfather and four others between the ages of 50 and 70 and by a 23 year old youth. She had been continuously abused over a period of three years by the suspects, investigations had further revealed.
Suspecting that her daughter was suffering from some urine infection the mother had taken the teenaged daughter to a medical practitioner who after examination had confirmed that the girl was pregnant.
Following a complaint made by the girl’s mother to the Galle Police, SSP Keerthi Silva had ordered a police team headed by the OIC of the Women and Children’s Bureau IP Mrs A. M. Nanayakkara to carry out investigations and charge the culprits involved.
