He never turned away from the people and their problems.
A hard realist,
He never tilted at windmills,
But used his repertoire of well-honed skills,
With razor-sharp mind and elegant tongue,
Breathing time and essence into exhilarating sentences
That seemed to turn the very earth with them!
Quick to explode the tenuously concocted
Shaky myths
And expose the thinly disguised prevarications,
In all their nakedness of ‘splendide mendax’!,
The mandated liturgy,the racist credo,
Of an exclusive homeland,
The lodestar of the self-righteous Nordic collaborators,
Were all laid bare by him,
In his intrepid forays into Western enclaves
And international fora,
Displaying a steely inner strength and unwavering
Resolve, to forge a United Sri Lanka.
The brilliant thrust and parry at the BBC "Hard Talk",
Was indeed , a scintillating exhibition of sharp reaction
And derisive dismissal of all that sanctimonious humbug!
His advocacy, had a unique amalgam of humility
In the unremmitting pursuit of the truth,
Combined with a quick impatience
Of what was hollow and specious.
As the tide turns and the rising international swell
Drowns the long endured jack-booted tyranny,
The spirit of unity and freedom, will rise inexorably
And stand proudly as a living monument
To that selfless martyr and esteemed savant.
