War vs. Economy takes center stage

The government is banking on its battle field success to win the forthcoming elections to the North Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces.
Led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Premier Ratnasiri Wickremanayake, the government campaign is focused on the high profile military campaign in the Vanni.
Political sources said the military campaign spearheaded by Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa would be the government’s trump card with the political pact with the LTTE’s breakaway TMVP expected to facilitate the UPFA victory in the NCP, the sources said.

The demonstrators were prevented from marching towards Temple Trees to hand over a memorandum to President Mahinda Rajapaksa on grievances within the university system.
