Change of perception

‘To be analogous to what Neil Armstrong said when he first stepped on the Moon, I would say that my thinking now is a small step to me, but a giant stride for millions of Sri Lankans.

I had much faith in the ‘Workers’ Champion’ – who, incidentally wanted to draft a ‘Workers’ Charter’ some years back – Mahinda Rajapaksa, when he was elected President of Sri Lanka. I had great expectations.

But I can’t say so anymore. In fact, I have gone a complete transmogrification. I intensely dislike him and his regime, as currently constituted.

He seems to think his ministers are more important to him than we, the citizens of the country, as he is not taking action against his ministers for overt corruption, scandalous waste and other anti-social activities as well as violating law and order.

Furthermore, to tolerate a man like Mervin Silva, cloaked in ministerial garb, is to suffer the opprobrium of the enlightened world. That speaks for the mind-set of the entire Rajapaksa cabinet!
