‘We are still in one piece’

As stated in the letters by IPC Mendis and Prolanka, the devolution of power should be done very carefully or not at all. Without any special or additional powers, we saw how far Eelamists have gone.

If we give them powers that they do not have now, the next megalomaniac will start from there and will be that much closer to their aim. What is already given under the Provincial Council Acts should be the maximum.

Although some opine that we have the present problem because we could not implement the pacts between Banda and Chelva and Dudley and Chelva, the nation has to be grateful to those who opposed these pacts, as we still have one country due to that opposition.
