Some in the UNP want to be in Opposition till 2017 — Mangala
‘PC polls results show a positive trend for the UNP’
‘It is not fair to pin the blame for everything on Ranil’
Leader of the SLFP (M) and MP Mangala Samaraweera yesterday defended UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was coming under increasing pressure from a section of the party to step down in the wake of the UNP’s defeat at Saturday’s PC elections in the NCP and Sabaragamuwa.

The UNP’s biggest problem was that it had too many agendas being peddled by different people, Samaraweera said addressing the media in Colombo yesterday. "It is not fair to pin the blame for everything on Ranil," he said, "there are some people in the UNP who apparently want to remain in the Opposition till 2017."

There are many people blocking the UNP leader’s path, Samaraweera said. The recent PC polls results showed some positive trends for the UNP such as an increase in the number of votes and seats and the Opposition could make the most of those gains, Samaraweera said urging the Opposition parties to join forces to defeat the government.
