The Development Lotteries Board which commenced its business activities on 19th January 1983 has by now succeeded in winning the hearts of the Sri Lankan people over a period of more than 25 years by bringing fortune to the hands of ten thousands of Sri Lankan people and also by channeling its profits to the President Fund and thereby contributing towards the Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Fund enlightening children in the education sector, providing financial relief to people who have been rendered helpless with heart diseases, kidney operations and cancer in the health sector and in addition thereto granting financial awards to persons displaying extraordinary talents in the culture and sports sectors and bring happiness to the lives of people who have been reduced to destitution by granting enormous sums of money to persons during sudden disasters.
Everyone is now aware that the Development Lotteries Board which has assisted people to stand on their feet without burdening others by providing a means of living to over 20,000 people to work as their sales agents and the employees of such agents, has become the wish conferring the bringing fortune and relief to the Sri Lankan people fulfilling its social obligations well.
The price of lotteries tickets are scheduled to be increased to Rs. 20/- from 28th August 2008 with the objective of increasing the prosperity of this country by fulfilling its social obligations in the aforesaid manner and granting more and more prizes to the people of this country and increasing the contributions from the excess earned by its operations towards the Mahapola Scholarship Fund and the health, sports, culture and religious sectors.
By this means prizes have been doubled in all lottery tickets such as Shanida, Development Fortune and Jayoda which have won the confidence of the people. Furthermore the super prize in this Jayoda Lottery commences with ten million Rupees. Prizes have been doubled in the Saturday Fortune Lottery ticket which brings a new prize basket of Rs. 10,00,000/- and for the first time commences the super prize with ten million Rupees a furthermore, if no one succeeds in winning the super prize at the draw in the Saturday Fortune, Development Fortune and Jayoda lotteries, it will be carried forward to the next draw.
We have fulfilled the aspirations of our patrons by granting a special request made by them in doubling the prizes in all our lottery tickets and introduced new super prizes. We have also increased the commission paid to the sales agent engaged in the sale of lottery tickets by 2.5% and in addition thereto implemented a target system paying an additional amount of 10 cents per ticket to agents who achieve this target. It is proposed thereby to provide employment as lottery sale agents/sellers to a group of new self employment recipient.
The Development Lotteries Board is earnestly looking forward to fulfill a host of social obligations by increasing the excess funds contributed to the President Fund by their business operations and thereby contribute towards enlightening our children, building a healthy nation, uplifting our cultural heritage and building a strong and vibrant nation.
