Ceylonese Hopper Nite at Trans Asia

Lip smacking gastronomy to the Sri Lankan palate, rhythmic beats to the yearning young and old, with soul refreshing lively Calypso music that blends with an informal setting, there is no other place in Colombo, like the ‘Hopper Night’ at Trans Asia.

‘Hopper Night’ is a concept introduced by Trans Asia in December 2007 which is back on track every month by popular demand. This will be a regular feature from now on, taking off every last Friday of each month, at 7pm on the Terrace over looking the Beira Lake. Sunil and his team are all set to make it a night to remember! It is the place for friends and family, as you are able to totally relax into the late hours to the magnificent and vibrant music of Jerome and his trio. They are known for their colourful and quality music flawlessly blended with Jerome’s inimitable renditions of western and Baila songs.

Adding more colour to the event this Friday, is the availability of Karaoke located on the terrace itself under the Library Canopy. The musical evening offers a wide selection of CD’s consisting of over 1000 songs from popular hits of yesteryear and the latest chart toppers. The music range comes in a mixture of local and international music, not forgetting the famous Sri Lankan Baila hits. So, after dinner, go over and let your newly found talents take light!

‘Hopper Night’ which is the theme, as the name suggests, is an authentic traditional Sri Lankan evening and boasts an elaborate buffet full of typical local bites and dishes besides the egg hoppers, plain hoppers, and milk hoppers. Delicious as it sounds is chef’s new creation, the chicken masala hopper and mutton masala hopper. The string hopper pilau, red and white rice flour string hoppers, pittu/mani pittu, chicken and vegetable kottu, fish and vegetable roti accompanied with chicken curry, barbath curry, fish ambulthial, fried handallo, fried cuttlefish, boiled manioc, tempered dhal, boiled chick pea mixed with flakes of coconut and chillie pieces are only just to name a few. Local sweet treats are aplenty, like coconut pancake, arsmi, dodol, halapa, lavariya, kokis, coconut milk toffee, curd and treacle, banana fritters, ribbon cake and assorted cut fruits. A drink of arrack and ginger tea are an ideal start and finish to this wonderfully spiced up meal complemented with calypso style music throughout the evening!

For just Rs. 750 plus taxes per person, this amazing spread is yours to indulge in. Be sure to make your way to the Beira Terrace on the 29th August 2008 where it all happens. With a stunning atmosphere, somewhat festive with a carnival feel, the tables set in the beautiful gardens of the hotel subtly lit at just the right light levels, it certainly would be the best way to end a busy week. Be sure to make your reservation early by calling 2491998 or 2491000 and be there for this once a month ideal dine out opportunity.

"Hopper Nite" is assured to break all records in Colombo, as it is the only event that offers a good night’s entertainment with dancing (if you must), an opportunity to sing, wine and dine in a completely Sri Lankan ambience.
