Menaka Singers directed by Menaka de Fonseka Sahabandu will present Allegrettango at the Lionel Wendt on Friday Sept 12th at 7.30 pm.

The programme will feature a wide range of music .Amongst the selections to be presented are the well known arias from Bizet’s opera Carmen-Habanera and Michaela’s aria.Other classical composers featured will be W A Mozart and Franz Schubert.The programme will also include selections from broadway musicals such as I feel pretty from West Side Story,I have confidence from My Fair Lady,On My Own from Les Miserable and It aint necessarily so by Gershwin from his ever popular Porgi and Bess.The Choir will also sing some popular Latin American selections such as Girl from Ipanema and Summer Samba.

Music of John Rutter ,Karl Jenkins,Henry Mancini and some Sinhala Songs are some of the items included in this evening of vocal and choral music.The Junior choir will perform an interesting medley of popular Disney favourites including Cruella de Vil, A dream is a wish your heart makes,A Jolly Holiday and lets get together.

Well known theatre personality Jerome De Silva will be handling the theatrical aspect of the production.

The music for the evening will be provided by Sureka Amerasinghe Flute,Maxie Pietersz –Doublebass, Shem Darius –Drums,P L N Hemantha and Ajith Kodikara Violin,Tamara Holsinger-Cello, and Menaka Sahabandu –Piano

Tickets will be available at the Wendt from the 5th of September. Proceeds will be towards the Friends of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children.

This is a newly formed Trust Fund administered by a committee headed by the Director of the hospital. It is a non-profit making organization which would utilize the funds for the welfare of the children cared by the hospital which is the last hope of the sick children of our land.
