ACWBC honours its "Founding Mothers"
The All Ceylon Women’s Buddhist Congress (ACWBC) which was founded 60 years ago by a group of Buddhist women led by Mrs. B. S. Jayawardena, commemorated Founder’s Day recently in the presence of a large and distinguished gathering of members and the children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren of the founders.
They placed red roses before the portrait of the founder-benefactor Mrs. B. S. Jayawardena. The Choir of Handicapped Girls sang Bakthi Gee. The chief guest Professor Kusuma Karunaratne addressed the gathering on the importance of honouring the Congress’"Founding Mothers". She complemented the ACWBC for its many achievements, called on members to keep up its progress and advised it to aim at involving young women in its organisation and activities. The President Mrs. Chitra Dias brought the proceedings to a close, thanking Professor Karunaratne for her inspiring talk and all those present to honour the "Founding Mothers" of the ACWBC.
