      Editorial:Making war against terror a success
A team of scientists of the Moratuwa University led by Dr. Trishantha Nanayakkara has invented a robot, which it has named ‘MURALI’, to detect landmines under a project funded by the National Science Foundation. The robot is more reliable than the existing landmine detection systems and is capable of leading a colony of landmine detecting robots, Nilusha Hemasiri representative of the NSF told The Island yesterday (1).

The NSF funded the research programme on developing a low cost robot for humanitarian de-mining. The research has demonstrated that the typical commercially available metal detectors ... 

This is the traditional Uva Provincial flag unknown to the present generation. It was safely kept hidden by a certain person in the province without being shown to any one. However, yesterday, when Minister of Health Nimal Siripala de Silva went to Badulla for the opening of the new bus stand, this flag was handed over to the Chief Minister Gamini Vijith Vijayamuni who in turn handed it over to Minister de Silva.

SLFP to celebrate 57th anniversary on religious note
For the first time ever in its 57-year history, since its founding by the late S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has decides to commemorate its anniversary today September (2) on a religious note.

Complaints against police down
There has been a reduction in the number of complaints made by the public against police officers, Director of the Public Complaints Investigation Division (PCID) of the National Police Commission (NPC) J. Paranamanna said.
