

This appeal is made with a view to securing facilitation for the construction of its headquarters building in the land leased by the Urban Development Authority at No. 50B, Sarana Mawatha, Rajagiriya. The UDA has given a period of 06 months ending 31st December 2008 to commence construction of this building. The funds hitherto collected for this purpose are deposited in two bank accounts

The regular source of funding that this organisation receives is an annual maintenance grant of Rs. 50,0O0/- from the Western Province Department of Social Services. However, while maintaining a staff of 20 it was continuing the following activities and services.
1. Braille and talking book library
2. Free issue of spectacles to the needy
3. Assist students engaged in higher education
4. Rehabilitation of war blinded and adult blind
5. Training in computer literacy and telephone switch board operating
6. Providing assistance for self employment
7. Death donation scheme
8. Free issue of white canes
9. Securing open employments and job opportunities for skilled rattan workers
10. Establishment of scholarship find
11. Distribution- of Braille and Audio cassetted books to 13 residential schools and 04 Universities
Sri Lanka Council for the Blind is now housed in a dilapidated building owned by the Colombo Municipal Council at No. 74. Church Street, Colombo 02.
