The Janatha Vimukti Peramuna Parliamentarian Anuruddha Polgampola, who resigned his seat early this week, is to be questioned by the CID over his involvement in human smuggling to Japan, Police media spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara said yesterday (5).

The Japanese authorities had questioned the JVP parliamentarian. The person who had accompanied him was deported by the Japanese authorities.

SSP Gunasekara said he was not aware whether Polgampola had returned to the country yet, but when The Island telephoned Polgampola on his cellular on Thursday (4) he admitted that he had done wrong in going to Japan without informing the JVP hierarchy and had tendered his resignation from Parliament.
