

Hairdresser,
beautician and business woman Nayana Karunaratne won the Woman
Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 award organised by the Women’s Chamber of
Industry and Commerce. Nayana with her inborn talent and dedication has
expanded her expertise beyond the shores of our island. Her success story
began with establishment of Salon Nayana in 1980. It has come a long way
since then, by evolving into a business enterprise with a chain of 12
Salons in Sri Lanka and India and over hundred and fifty dedicated
professionals comprising of cosmetologists, stylists and nutritionists.
Always dressed in subdued good taste and favouring the elegance of the saree she exudes charm and a vivacious quality that keeps her on the forefront of style, which is also a demand for someone from her profession.
For receiving the award Nayana wore a saree of shot gold tissue which was patterned on the pallu in a weave of oyster roses. Her blouse was of conventional design, and she wore a necklace of pearls.
Sicille Kotelawala whose husband Lalith Kotelawala presented the award to Nayana, wore a traditional Indian silk saree in shot purple dotted in gold, with a border and pallu in red and gold.
On the stage with the three of them was Indira Kulathilake in a burgundy, black and white print of a contemporary design, with the Guest of Honor Ramya Weerakoon, President Women’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce also in a printed saree in a fusion of bieges green and white stripes, with the pallu in a print of peacock feathers into which tones of tan and yellow was brought in. Her blouse was in the contrast of green. A Kandyan saree in a shade of coral worked in subdued gold was Sita Yahampath’s choice. Sita was the Chairperson, Women Entrepreneur of the Year Awards Ceremony.
