Upali Rajakaruna took to playing wheelchair tennis in 2002 following a training program conducted by the SL Tennis Association. In barely five years, Rajakaruna could become the best wheelchair tennis player in the country surpassing all his colleagues. He is now representing the country in Beijing Paralympics.
