Minister Samarasinghe meets new UN HC for HR

Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister of Disaster Management and Human Rights and his delegation met the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay on Friday 5, her fourth day in office, at the Palais Wilson in Geneva.

The Minister’s delegation included Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, Ambassador/Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN in Geneva, Professor Rajiva Wijesinha, Secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights and Mohan Peiris, PC, Legal Consultant to the Ministry of Defence.

The Minister briefed the High Commissioner on various steps taken by the Government to promote and protect human rights in Sri Lanka and expressed confidence that he would be able to continue to work closely with the new High Commissioner and her office.
