Ven. Hirigollegama Indraratne, the chief incumbent of the Sri Vardhanarama temple in Eppawela was attacked by two persons on Saturday.
Ven. Indraratne told ‘The Island’ that the attack would have been prompted by his involvement in the recent UNP propaganda campaign for the North Central PC polls. He said that he could identify the attackers who came on a motor cycle to his temple at 6. 30 p. m. and went on the rampage.
A spokesman for the Eppawela government hospital said the monk had not received any serious injuries. A complaint has been lodged with the Eppawela police.
