Huge Buddha statue found in Bamiyan
A huge reclining Buddha statue has been unearthed recently close to the world famous Bamiyan Buddhas destroyed by the Taleban in 2001, according to BBC.
The statue measuring 19 m (62 ft) in a reclining position is believed to date back to the Third Century, BBC says.
Relics such as coins and ceramics have also been discovered at the site.
The statue has been badly damaged in all parts except its neck and the right hand. BBC says archaeologists are working on restoring it and it would be ready for public display next year.
The latest find is said to have given hope to archaeologists searching for a 300-metre-long statue referred to b a Chinese pilgrim centuries ago, BBC says.
