A Buddhist monk has been appointed to the board of directors of Lanka Cement Limited controlled by the government with effect from May 30, 2008 according to a Stock Exchange notification.

The monk is Ven. Bonupitiye Nagatissa thero.

A new Japanese director, Mr. S. Sakurai, has been appointed a director of Hotel Developers Lanka Limited with Mr. Y. Nakazato as alternate. Hotel Developers is the owning company of Colombo Hilton Hotel with a significant Japanese shareholding.

Aitken Spence & Company Limited has appointed Mr. Jehan Marcel Perera to its board from September 1 while Lanka IOC PLC has appointed Mr. Jaliya Medagama to its board as an Independent Director also with effect from September 1.

Ceylon Leather Products as announced the appointment of two new directors Chitral Jayantha de Silva and Mr. Mohan Asoka Abeynaike with effect from September 1. Dr. Uditha Liyanage has resigned from this company’s board with effect from August 31.
