

Judge gives pig new lease of life
KANDY – In a country where wild pigs are mercilessly hunted for their meat considered a delicacy, the kind intervention of a judicial officer to save an injured pig is reported from Kandy.
Kandy Chief Magistrate Sumudu Premachandra happened to see an injured animal writhing in pain on the road side near his official residency yesterday. On finding that it was a wild pig injured in an accident, he immediately rung up the Kandy police and requested that the animal be rushed to the Peradeniya Veterinary hospital for treatment.
Kandy HQI Anuruddha Bandaranayake responded immediately. He arrived with a team of policemen and removed the pig to hospital, where it was given emergency treatment.
The animal is out of danger, according to doctors.
