Kidney patients duped by gang promising money from President’s Fund

The police have cracked a large scale racket of collecting money from kidney patients, on the promise that they would receive financial assistance from the President’s Fund.

The Police have arrested three persons for alleged involvement in the racket. The arrests were made at Aluvihare, Matale, by a police team attached to the Nugegoda Division.

The police have launched investigations after actor Roshan Pilapitiya alerted Nugegoda police. According to him, the gang had identified him as one of their associates.

Sub Inspector A. J. M. Ranjana Samarasinghe told The Island that more arrests were to be made in this connection. The police are trying to establish whether people suffering from other life threatening diseases had also been tricked.
