Transport
Minister Dallas Alahapperuma received three power sets imported from China
at the Colombo Port on Saturday. It is the first consignment of 15 power
sets from China imported under a special loan scheme approved by the
Chinese government at a cost of US$ 40 million.
The number of power sets in the country would increase to 50 with the import of the new S-10 Class units, a spokesman for the Transport Ministry said.
The Chinese Government had agreed to release the power sets based on the year 2000 prices following discussions held with President Mahinda Rajapaksa during his recent visit to China, he said.
