Acting on a tip off received by Aturugiriya police, a police team on Saturday arrested a person who had allegedly paid Rs. 10,000 for a day-old infant. The arrest has been made at the buyer’s Mulleriyawa residence. Police have also taken into custody the parents of the child.

A police spokesman said that the couple had attempted to get rid of the child as they had not been married. According to him, the man had found the buyer before his companion gave birth to a baby boy.
