

Sri Lanka has one last hope in Pushpakumara
Sri Lanka has one hope remaining in Udaya Pushpakumara after Shantha Kumara and Lal Pushpakumara failed to impress in their respective events at the Paralympics Games in Beijing China yesterday.
Shantha Kumara who competed in 800 meters T-46 event couldn’t book a berth in the final and Lal Pushpakumara failed to win a place in the High Jump T-44/46 event yesterday.
Kumara, who clocked two minutes 01.20 seconds to produce his personal best was placed sixth in the first heat and Pushpakumara was placed tenth in his event. Pushpakumara cleared a height of 1.78 meters.
At the end of the ninth day of Paralympics Sri Lankan athletes had finished six of their events. And Udaya Pushpakumara will compete in the long jump to conclude Sri Lanka’s participation in Paralympics.
Sandun Wasana Perera (eighth in the 48 kg Power Lifting), Shantha Kumara (fifth place in the 200 meter first round and 400 meters first round, sixth place in 800 meters first round), Udaya Pushpakumara (13th in the Javelin Throw) and Upali Rajakaruna (won one match- Tennis Singles) have completed their events.
