Teachers should set an example to all – SP Governor
Teachers should behave in an exemplary manner in society as their duty is to set an example to society and especially children, who look up to them, Governor Southern Province Kumari Balasuriya said in Galle on Friday (12).

Addressing a felicitation ceremony for teachers she said the country’s future depended on the children of today and it was the duty of all to look after them so that they would become useful citizens of the country. The policy of President Mahinda Rajapaksa was to encourage the teaching profession and many privileges were given to them by the government in recent times, she said.

The event to felicitate 1,729 teachers, of the Galle, Matara and Hambantota Districts, who had excelled in teaching was organized by the Chief Minister, Southern Province, Shan Wijelal de Silva. There are 29,000 teachers in schools of the three districts of the Southern Province.
