"Almost all the
syllabuses of external degree courses conducted by 12 Sri Lankan
universities are now outdated and prompt action had to be taken to
modernize the curricular and syllabus of external degree courses", said J.
M. Sumanasekara, a Director of Education attached to the NWP-Education
Department, addressing a conference of school principals who conducted
classes for GCE (A/L) Examination in the North Western Province.
He said that about 200,000 students are following outdated external
degree courses and these courses are not relevant to the present times.
Prof. Wiswa Warnapala, the Minister of Higher Education has planned to
discuss this matter will all vice-chancellors of all Sri Lankan
Universities and modern external degree courses will be shortly introduced
for external undergraduates, he said.
