NCP doctors not paid allowances by PC

The All Ceylon Government Medical Officers’ Association (ACGMOA) has accused the North-Central province Health Ministry of failing to pay the on-call availability and transport allowances to doctors serving in the province.

In accordance with the circular MA/MS/F/ 13/2008 issued by the Director General of Health Services Dr. Ajith Mendis the doctors serving in other districts had been paid the allowances, but the doctors in the North-Central province had been given step-motherly treatment, the ACGMOA said.

ACGMOA President Dr. Shishantha Dissanayaka told The Island that unlike other government servants doctors in the medical profession were not entitled for risk and security allowances. They were entitled for on-call availability and transport allowances in accordance with the rules and regulations of the health ministry. The ACGMOA had informed the North-Central province Health Ministry to pay the allowances to doctors with due arrears.

Dr. Dissanayaka said that it was a great injustice meted out to doctors in the North-Central province and the ACGMOA was in the process of negotiating to take trade union action over the issue. The ACGMOA would regret to inform the North-Central province health ministry the expected trade union action on the payment of allowances could cripple the healthcare services to a great extent.
