Sanath Wijewickrama, a JVP member of the Palinduwara Pradeshiya Sabha in Kalutara, yesterday crossed over to the National Freedom Front led by Wimal Weerawansa.

Making a special statement at the Pradeshiya Sabha’s monthly meeting, he said he would leave the JVP and act as an NFF member hereafter.

The JVP leadership had failed to explain why a split had occured in the party, Wijewickrama told the meeting.

SomeJVP high rankers had intimidated those who raised questions about the party dispute, he said.

Wijewickrama, who was elected from the JVP to the Palindanuwara Pradeshiya Sabha in 2006, was also the deputy secretary of the Agalawatta electorate JVP committee.

With his crossing over the number of NFF Local Government members has risen to eight.
