Sri Lanka ‘A’ draw third unofficial ‘Test’
Sri Lanka ‘A’ escaped with a draw in the third and final four day unofficial ‘Test’ match against South Africa ‘A’ in Benoni, but couldn’t prevent the Proteas from winning the series 1-0 after they won the second unofficial ‘Test’ last week.

The South Africans set the tourists an improbable target of 341 in one session and halfway through the final session sensed an upset win as the Sri Lankans lost three quick wickets for 18 runs. But Kaushal Silva (40) and captain Thilina Kandamby (32) through a 76 run stand prevented further setbacks.

Although the Sri Lankans lost two further wickets before stumps, the middle order pair had done enough to ensure a draw. Sri Lanka ‘A’ finished on 95 for five in their second innings.

For the South Africans, left arm fast bowler Lonwabo Tsotsobe, accounted for four of the five wickets to fall.

Earlier, the Proteas batting first accumulated a mammoth 550 all out and Sri Lanka ‘A’ replied with 395 all out. South Africa ‘A’ declared their second innings at 185 for seven, setting the Sri Lankans the stiff target.

The highlight during the game for the tourists was their captain Kandamby’s 128 which went a long way in them ensuring a draw. Tharanga Paranavithana (73) and Malinga Bandara (63) made half-centuries in the first innings for Sri Lanka ‘A’.

Left-armer Chanaka Welagedara picked up six wickets in the game.

Kandamby was named Man of the Match.
