Minister Devananda with officials and athleates of St. Anthony’s College, Kayts.
Minister Douglas Devananda, who met the St. Anthony’s College, Kayts Under-17 athletics team members who finished first at the All Island Athletic Competition 2008, recently, said that while he congratulated the winners he would also launch a programme with all the facilities and encouragement necessary to move further forward.
Whilst congratulating the athlets, the minister added that the war environment in which the students had been brought up, was quite different to what prevailed when he was a student, all being due to those with self-centered interest with no attachment whatsoever to society.
As this chaotic situation had been created by man it also had to be ended by man, the minister added.
The minister urged the students to grow up with dignity, honour and exemplary human values without causing even the slightest harm to society and the environment.
It was of special gladness for everyone, to observe that after a lapse of 25 long years, a school from the Jaffna District has emerged victorious, having won first places at an athletic event for Boys’ Under-17.
The minister presented the winners and trainers with cash awards. He also took steps to provide the school with a multi media projector.
The Principal, teachers and ministry officials attended the ceremony.
