‘Traders sell rice contravening control price’

Consumers complain that rice is sold at different prices at their will, by rice traders throughout the country, contravening the control price law of Rs. 70 per kilo.

The Secretary of Trade and Consumers Ministry Dr. R. M. K. Ratnayake said that orders would be issued soon to the Consumers’ Authority, to nab rice dealers selling rice above the stipulated price.

Market sources revealed that even wholesale rice traders in Pettah sell rice for exorbitant prices, without issuing receipts.
