To celebrate her birthday in Angela Seneviratne asked twenty of her near
and dear friends and part of the family to join her and Eraj for dinner at
the Taprobane Restaurant of the Cinnamon Grand Hotel. Besides her, elder
daughter Shimmie, all the guests were requested to come in smart casual
with something red in it and what a range of styles that brought with
Angela herself in a tie and dye red and nearly white chiffon from the
manipuri days with a tracery of a zig zag about a foot above the hemline
in gold. She wore a cluster of red flowers in her hair and a wristful of
red and white bangles and red drop earrings for stylish sophistication.
Daughter Shimmie had her sleeveless V necked red top belted in black at
the empire waistline she wore with black pants. A red blouse was contrast
to the saree Melonie wore with a black saree with border and print in a
fireworks like display in several colours.
Among the friends joining the happy evening which in real party style had caps and whistles and all the trimmings which took one back to the days of your youth were Koluu, (Hemalal Ranawake), Mario Lou Ching Wong, Jith Pieris, Ruwan besides Dana Foster and husband, Sumita and Raju Radha and Shirlene de Silva.
The following evening Angela asked many more friends to join her in a service of thanksgiving as she considers some friends are like gold and some birthdays are too with a celebration for both blessings at the Church of St. Micheal and All Angels, Polwatte to be followed by refreshments at the St. Mathews Hall. The service was conducted by Rev. Dushanth Rodrigo and Rev. Patrick Rajaratnam in the church decorated with white paper roses sprayed in gold lacquer mingled with greenery and white flowers.
For this event Angela wore a saree of patola silk woven in ivory and gold with a border and pallu in gold, she wore with a white stoned pendent on a lasso and earstuds to match and gold flowers in her hair. Daughter Shimmie was the embodiment of glamour in a midnight blue chiffon saree worked in a web of silver sequins. Sarees were mostly in prints and the congregation wore clothes that were not bathed in glamour. Her two younger daughters missed out on the events because they are both at studies abroad.
