Flying
home to join her mother Thilaka Hitchcock and friends was Ramani Leathard
to celebrate her birthday with friends and family. Also specially out was
her only daughter Anusha to bring three generations together. It was one
of those evenings at which we met many years ago and still stay together
as close and sincere friends. From Ramani’s generation were her school
time friends with their spouses among them Rohan and Gowrie Ponniah,
Chandri Peris home on holiday from England, where he has been domiciled
for many years, and who was among the top dancers Sri Lanka then produced.
Fashion was a leisurely business with Thilaka in a salwar
kameez of silk in tangerine, off white and a touch of green. Birthday girl
Ramani wore a cutaway armholed wine red top trimmed at the neckline in a
black mandarin collar and belted in black at the low waist, with black
palatzo pants. Her daughter had her bare shouldered black top in a print
in deep blue and light blue she wore with white pants. A pendent on a fine
chain made her ornament of destination. A black and white outfit was
Audrey Rajendra’s choice.
